Cooking the perfect fillet steak is an art.

It’s simpler than you think.

Follow these steps to achieve steak perfection.

Ingredients:

  • 1 fillet steak (about 1.5 inches thick)
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove (smashed)
  • 1 sprig of rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon of butter

Step 1: Prepare the Steak

Take the steak out of the fridge.

Let it come to room temperature.

Season generously with salt and pepper.

Step 2: Heat the Pan

Use a heavy-based frying pan or skillet.

Heat it over high heat.

Add a splash of olive oil.

Step 3: Sear the Steak

Once the pan is smoking hot, add the steak.

Do not move it.

Let it sear for 2-3 minutes.

Flip the steak.

Step 4: Add Flavor

Add the smashed garlic and rosemary sprig to the pan.

Toss in the butter.

Tilt the pan slightly and spoon the melted butter over the steak.

Step 5: Cook to Desired Doneness

Cook for another 2-3 minutes for medium-rare.

Adjust time for your preferred doneness.

Step 6: Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the pan.

Let it rest on a plate for 5 minutes.

This locks in the juices.

Step 7: Serve and Enjoy

Slice the steak against the grain.

Serve with your favorite sides.

Enjoy your perfect fillet steak!

Remember, practice makes perfect.

Don’t be afraid to experiment.

Happy cooking!
